Iran actor to sing Mowlana verses in album

Prolific Iranian director, comedian, actor and musician Mehran Modiri is to release a new album with verses by Persian classical poet Mowlana (Rumi) in spring.

Modiri sung a number of verses by Rumi – the 13th century Persian poet, scholar and mystic – to be put together in an album in collaboration with Iranian composer and tar player, Mahyar Alizadeh.

The album will include Mowlana’s verses as well as some instrumental tracks.

Mowlana was a 13th century Persian poet whose influence transcends borders and ethic divisions. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world’s languages and he is described as being the US most popular and best selling poet.

One of the tracks on the album is expected to be released by the end of the current Persian calendar year (March 20), as a prelude to the release of the full album, which is currently undergoing final recording procedures.

The new album has reportedly a more serious atmosphere, which is a departure from Modiri’s traditional repertoire of pop and folk pieces.
